I interviewed singer Jaki Graham a few years ago (gosh, how time flies) about her career to date, her legacy as well as her thoughts on the current crop of soul starlets. Jaki was such a sweetie. Totally down to earth, personable and humble – definitely my type of artist. It’s going to be quite a busy few months for Jaki. Next month she releases her first UK album in 23 years, entitled For Sentimental Reasons. The singer will also be honoured on Birmingham ‘Walk of Stars’ on the 3rd October, and next year sees the release of her autobiography ‘Heaven Knows’ due to be published in February 2013, detailing her turbulent upbringing and some of the many trials and tribulations she’s faced throughout the years.
A truly well deserved accolade. And with the stories of so many Black British artists absent from the public domain, I look forward to reading the autobiography.
